You’ve chosen your destination and may have even booked some bargain flights online, looking forward to your holiday, lying in the sun, sipping Sangria and soaking up the rays. But are you a senior traveler and have you arranged your senior travel insurance?

If you are over 64 and looking for travel insurance cover you could run into some problems. Its not unusual for insurance companies to suddenly become reluctant to offer travel insurance to senior travelers for a number of age related reasons. They don’t want to take what they may see as unnecessary risks. They are in the business of making money and would like nothing more than to never pay out for insurance claims. But senior travelers mean additional risks for insurers due to possibly failing health, pre-existing medical conditions and the effects of aging.

So what are the options open to the senior traveler? it is most important that you don’t leave it too late. Make a start in looking around for your travel insurance policy as soon as you can. The longer you leave it the harder it will be to find the policy that you need.

Start with your existing insurance provider. if you already have some health insurance or life insurance then contact your insurance company and ask if they have specific senior travel insurance policies. And if you have a pre-existing medical condition find out if they provide pre-existing medical condition travel insurance.

Always shop around. Even if your insurer provides what appear to be good value quotes take a look around as you may find cheaper alternatives. There are some specialist senior insurance providers who are likely to be able to beat the prices that have been quoted from other insurers.

You may like to consider multi-trip travel insurance, once you have found a policy and provider that you are happy with. Save yourself the hassle of having to shop around and find an insurance provider the next time you want to take a vacation, take out a multi-trip policy and save yourself the aggravation.

Whatever you do, always be honest and open with your prospective travel insurance provider. Don’t lie about your age, your health or any pre-existing medical conditions that you might have. And have a great holiday.
